Glass Cages and Keys

Glass Cages and Keys

I am trapped between glass
and Time holds the key.

He stands there watching
Laughing at me,
While my hands struggle,
My eyes search
Trying to find a way out,
When the only way out
Is if he gave the key to me.

Through the glass, his smile,
The kind that finds joy in witnessing failure
Like Loki, playing tricks,
Holding freedom for sale.

On one side of the glass, I see myself,
Alone but alive, under bright lights
Where walls scrape the sky.

On the other side, I see love,
Infinite love, all around me,
Even when I don’t deserve it.

If Time unlocked the doors
and set me free, I don’t know
Which side of the glass I’d rather be.

Maybe I would just stand there.
The trickster, still laughing.

Maybe he should just keep the keys.

He knows I’ve had long enough
To think this through,
but I still don’t have an answer.

The ticking gets louder as Time moves faster.

Maybe it’s all a race just to see
Who will shatter first.
The glass or me?
